Nick Foles vs Josh Allen

This is going to be a unique offseason and someone had to bring this up. You have names hitting the market in some key areas you wouldn't normally see.

Antonio Brown, Le'von Bell, Kareem Hunt, Desean Jackson and it seems Nick Foles as well. Now many wont put Nick Foles in the same category of talent as an Antonio Brown/Le'von Bell type talent or the promise of Kareem Hunt (barring legal/NFL judgement).

To jump to the point, would it be the worse thing in the world if the Bills jumped at the opportunity to add Nick Foles a superbowl champion, who has experience as highly thought of talent then regulated to the bench only to have two seasons in the a row where he stepped up for his team and barring a pass that went right through the hands of alshon jefferies was most likely going to lead them to another NFC championship game.

My points as a fan:

  • We owe nothing to our young QB in Josh Allen. We owe it to our team to get to the playoffs and make a run at the superbowl
  • This defense is competitive enough and ready for the playoffs. It's in its prime a lot of our players on the line and in secondary are veterans at this point. You can't waste these defenses on an offense in a holding pattern waiting on a QB to develop.
  • Josh Allen's game though electric and exciting, it doesn't lend its self to him lasting a full season under center.
  • Josh Allen isn't getting paid a monster contract and sitting behind a true QB like Nick Foles would be worth more than any coach they could bring in or anything Matt Barkley or Derek Anderson can bestow to him.
  • This offseason is huge for Josh Allen, if he steps up to the plate and does out perform a Nick Foles, Foles still has premium trade value and there are a handful of teams that would take him.
  • Offense playmakers in free agency want to see a offense coordinator that is creative and a qb that is steady. I will be bold enough to say our OC can be inventive and knows how to use/develop guys.
  • Nick Foles is great at spreading the ball around and getting a quick release helps in avoiding sacks.
  • Outlook at his moment for Josh Allen is Cam Newton. Great athlete with physical talents that are hard to match. Foles's strongest point are his mind and his ability to rise to the occasion mentally.
  • With Foles at the helm I believe we have a better shot at the playoffs. Foles has proven once the playoffs stage is set anything is possible.
  • Paying Foles big money doesn't kill our opportunities to add talent to the O-Line, RB, WR, TE. In fact it may enhance some of our weakness in each of those areas.
  • If Josh Allen misses significant time..do you really trust Matt Barkley ( who beat a Jets team that had rough week or Derek Anderson) or if Nick Foles misses time you get a chance to let Allen handle the snaps with Barkley being the backup.
  • Around 64 Million in cap space when you can acquire a player that can make your other players better you have to take your shot.
Conclusion:

Brian Daboll I think pulled off giving us an offense that was depleted of talent across the board. I'd like to see Daboll with a true passing QB that knows how to implement a game plan. With Josh I worry that he can't help himself, his success and talents require him at this point in his career to take a lot of risk. He feeds off the energy and that daring style of throwing the ball a country mile and scrambling for "tough yards". Josh Allen is much more Lamar Jackson/Ryan Tannehill than he is Dak Prescott/Patrick Mahomes. I'm optimistic with Allen because he came back and showed some moxy at the end of the season and in our weaker part of the schedule showed that in some ways the game slowed down a bit for him. Josh Allen's biggest threat though will be himself with his crazy throws and his scrambles his confidence is in his reliance of making a play then knowing his playmakers and knowing it is better for the team for him to live another down then going for broke.

I've seen this team yo yo from having strong defenses and no offense and from strong offenses to bend and break defenses. I can't see players at this point in Josh Allen's career lining up to play with him at this point. Some may say good riddance but similar to what Mario Williams did to our d-line where we had to pay a lot his presence alone paid off for a young Dareus, prime Kyle Williams and Jerry Hughes who we got for a bargain. Nick Foles leadership coupled with the process and McDermott's ability to get this team to play hard doesn't have us hinging all our hopes on the 2019 season on Josh Allen having to press himself as being "our" offense and instead has him see how he should just be a conductor for our offense not the whole train with Foles at the helm.

In all reality Foles most likely will go to the Giants, Redskins, Broncos..i'm not sure if the Jags have the cap space but anything is better than Bortles.

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.
