Former Denver Broncos offensive line coach Sean Kugler has signed on as the new offensive line coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers under their head coach, Bruce Arians. Reports had surfaced earlier this week that the Buffalo Bills were denied permission to interview Kugler while Denver was seeking a head coach.
Arians and Kugler worked together with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2010 and 2011, when Arians was offensive coordinator. It’s unknown if the Broncos allowed Kugler to interview in Tampa because it was Arians, or because it was with an NFC team, or if they let him go and he chose to go there.
Kugler grew up in Lockport, NY, and many had hoped he would return to Western New York, where he also coached the Bills’ offensive line from 2007 to 2009. He also has a tangential connection to Sean McDermott, as Andy Reid was Kugler’s position coach in college at UTEP.
Buffalo will now need to move onto the rest of their candidates as they continue to look at wide receiver, offensive line, and special teams coaches.
