Buffalo Bills announce that most starters will play Week 17 against the New York Jets

In a game that won’t count in the Bills’ playoff run, they are trying to play both sides.

Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott announced on Tuesday that the team had decided that they were going to be judicious with starters but still let the majority of first-teamers play in the season finale this weekend. Buffalo is locked into the fifth seed in the AFC playoff picture.

“I wish I could take them all out, we just don’t have the numbers to do that,” said McDermott on Tuesday. “We feel this is the right decision for this team at this time. Not all of them are going to play the same amount. We do want to stay sharp.”

McDermott admitted that backup quarterback Matt Barkley will see some time in the season finale but that second-year QB Josh Allen would start the game. He didn’t get into specifics on any other players.

“It’s big picture,” said McDermott. “It’s where we are as a team. Where we are as this team this year and where we’re trying to go, we feel like this is the right thing for this team, this year in this situation.”
