Buffalo Bills free-agent guard John Miller has found a new home with the Cincinnati Bengals. The news was first reported by Adam Schefter.
Miller was drafted by Doug Whaley’s Bills in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft. He was immediately penciled in as the number-one right guard, staring 12 games in his rookie year. He started all 16 games in 2016 before being benched four games into 2017 under new offensive coordinator Rick Dennison. Dennison loved his zone-blocking scheme, something that didn’t fit with Miller’s game. When Brian Daboll changed it back to a power scheme, also employed by the previous offensive coaching staff under Rex Ryan, Miller was back in business, starting 15 games in 2018.
While we projected a modest contract for Miller on the free agent market, Miler signed a three-year, $16.5 million deal. We don’t know the specifics, but that’s a hefty pay increase for Miller. Guards with that much starting experience are getting paid!
Most Bills fans would have been okay with Miller coming back on a team-friendly deal, but didn’t want to commit to him long-term.
