It’s getting closer and closer to draft day and we’re continuing to break down possible picks for the Buffalo Bills because there are so many options for them, especially in the first round. This time we’re breaking down defensive tackle Montez Sweat from Mississippi St. who, some are saying, is the best pass rusher in the draft. Landon Young from For Whom the Cowbell Tolls give us a report on Sweat about what people can expect from him in the NFL.
What are his strengths?
Sweat was one of the most agile defensive ends in the country. He’s really built differently than most defensive ends, but the guy can straight up play.
What are his weaknesses?
Mississippi State didn’t get to see many weaknesses from Sweat, but if I had throw one in there it would be that many times he would go out to guard the running back in the flat which would leave the QB run open. That could just be more scheme than weaknesses though.
Would he be a good fit in Buffalo?
I’m not gonna lie and say I know a ton about the Buffalo defense, but I can’t imagine Sweat would be a “bad” fit anywhere.
Note: In Buffalo’s defense, Sweat would be taking the place of Shaq Lawson, as a defensive end who could flex inside to defensive tackle on obvious passing situations. He would be lining up next to Star Lotulelei and would get a lot of opportunities at 1-on-1 match ups with Star drawing a double team the majority of the time.
Is he worthy of the top 10 pick?
Absolutely. He’s top 5 in my opinion but I’m biased.
