The Bills hit the proverbial home run drafting the talented and athletic Oliver at No. 9

On the latest episode of Billieve: A Buffalo Bills Fan Podcast, host John Boccacino and co-host Anthony Marino discuss the Buffalo Bills’ selection of Houston defensive tackle Ed Oliver with the No. 9 overall selection Thursday night in the first round of the NFL Draft.

Thanks to some luck, the Bills were able to land their guy, Oliver, without trading away any future picks. Our podcasters LOVE the pick of Oliver, who should step in from day one and be a productive member of Leslie Frazier’s 4-3 defense.

Oliver addresses a MAJOR concern for the Bills, giving Frazier a disruptive and athletic defensive tackle who can get after the quarterback and cause havoc in opposing backfields.

During his three years with the Cougars, Oliver totaled 53 tackles-for-a-loss to go with 13.5 sacks. Oliver is that rare talent who is extremely athletic, with the requisite size, strength, and quickness needed to strike fear into opposing offensive linemen for years to come.

While Oliver has a tough task stepping in and making up for the retirement of Kyle Williams, he should be up for the challenge.

Boccacino and Marino also offer up their thoughts on what the Bills could do with their second- and third-round picks Friday night, with both expecting general manager Brandon Beane to package some of the later picks to move back into the second- or third round to add another high-caliber contributor (be it a wide receiver, another defensive lineman, an offensive lineman, a cornerback, or a running back).

What do you think, Bills fans? How excited are you to welcome Oliver to Western New York? What would you do in the second- and third-rounds (picks No. 40 and 74) if you were Beane? Are there any players/positions you hope Buffalo goes after, and are there any you want the Bills to steer clear of with the picks? Feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments section, and check out our podcast for thoughts on these topics and more on the latest Billieve: A Buffalo Bills Fan Podcast.
