The Buffalo Bills seem intent on adding talent to their defensive line in the 2019 NFL Draft. Add versatile Michigan Wolverines defensive lineman Rashan Gary to the list of elite defensive linemen the Bills are bringing in for a pre-draft visit. Gary himself announced that he would make the visit during an appearance on Chris Simms Unfiltered a few days ago.
The 6’4” Gary weighs in at 277 pounds, and he has the ability to play as both a defensive tackle and a defensive end in a 4-3 scheme. In Buffalo, he could presumably serve as a defensive end on run downs before kicking inside as a three-tech defensive tackle on obvious passing downs.
Gary is a superb athlete, and he came to Michigan in 2016 as the nation’s top-ranked high school recruit. However, his athleticism did not translate to eye-popping statistics on the field, as Gary managed only 9.5 sacks in his 34 career games. At the Scouting Combine this year, Gary’s 40-yard dash time (4.58 seconds) ranked fourth among all defensive line/edge players. He also managed to produce top-ten results in the vertical jump (38”; 4th), broad jump (120”; T-7th), and the 20-yard shuttle (4.29; T-7th).
ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. mocked Gary to the Bills in March.
