The Buffalo Bills kicked off their mandatory minicamp today, and news on the injury front was mixed. While at least one player who has been recuperating from an offseason procedure is set to return, others are still nursing their injuries.
Center Mitch Morse, who signed a record-breaking free-agent contract this offseason, is set to be a full participant for the first time in a Bills uniform. The team’s most expensive addition this spring had been recovering from core muscle surgery. Head coach Sean McDermott said he’s “full go” for practice.
Aside from Morse, most of the injury news thus far is not good. Guard Quinton Spain (thumb), wide receiver Zay Jones (undisclosed), tight end Tyler Kroft (foot), tight end Jason Croom (hamstring), and guard Ike Boettger (undisclosed) all missed practice today. Offensive lineman Jeremiah Sirles (undisclosed foot/ankle) was injured last week and, as a result, he also will not practice. McDermott said he is “hopeful” that Sirles’s recovery is “headed in the right direction.”
Perhaps the most concerning injury involved second-year receiver Robert Foster, whom McDermott said has a foot injury. While the coach said that the team “[doesn’t] think there’s [long-term significance],” any injury to a wide receiver’s foot is concerning. Guard Jon Feliciano, who had been working out at center with Morse and Russell Bodine limited due to injury recovery, will also miss practice due to an undisclosed injury.
Wide receiver Cole Beasley will practice in a limited capacity as he continues to recover from offseason core muscle surgery. Offensive linemen Ty Nsehke, Russell Bodine, and Garrett McGhin are also limited, as are defensive backs Rafael Bush and Taron Johnson.
