The Buffalo Bills have re-hired former assistant general manager Brian Gaine as Senior Personnel Advisor, essentially creating a front-office role for a trusted former member of their team. Gaine served a brief time as general manager of the Houston Texans from January 2018 to June of 2019. The move was first reported by ESPN’s Field Yates.
Prior to heading to Houston, Gaine was vice president of player personnel for the Bills, a top-level job in the power structure. Before that 2017 season, he was with the Texans as director of player personnel for three years. Before that he worked his way up to assistant general manager of the Miami Dolphins.
Following his firing, Gaine was accused by the Texans’ security director Jeff Pope of targeting and firing African-American personnel on staff, but several prominent African-Americans who had worked for Gaine previously came to his defense.
The Texans never gave an official reason for Gaine’s firing in their official statement.
