The only player on the Buffalo Bills roster not in attendance at Thursday’s open of training camp was defensive tackle Kyle Peko. After the team announced he was excused for personal reasons, Peko took to Instagram to explain what was happening.
The statement revealed that Peko’s wife, Giuliana, was diagnosed with stage 3 Hodgkin lymphoma, or cancer of the lymph nodes. The lymph nodes are part of the body’s immune system.
Peko was signed to Buffalo’s practice squad in September 2018, spending the entire season there after his release from the Denver Broncos practice squad on September 11th. He’s played in seven NFL games, all for Denver, since signing with the Broncos as an undrafted free agent in 2015. He had been on and off Denver’s roster more than six times in three years.
Peko is expected to be at practice Friday morning, saying “As long as I go up to NY and kick ass youll [sic] be here kicking ass!”
