On the latest episode of Billieve: A Buffalo Bills Fan Podcast, with training camp officially underway, host John Boccacino and co-host Jamie D’Amico do a deep dive into the 2019 schedule for the Buffalo Bills, providing week-by-week predictions as the Bills look to improve upon their 6-10 record during Josh Allen’s first season as Buffalo’s starting quarterback.
After spending the last two podcasts offering up their worst-case and best-case scenarios for the upcoming season, our podcasters put on their prognosticators’ hats and go through the Bills’ schedule to figure out whether Buffalo will make it back to the playoffs or not.
We provide a few upset possibilities — D’Amico is calling for the Bills to knock off the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 8, while Boccacino likes Buffalo to earn a measure of revenge from last year’s embarrassing season-opening loss to the Baltimore Ravens when the Bills host the Ravens in Week 14) — before taking a bold leap by offering up our season-long predictions.
The season kicks off Sept. 8 when the Bills face the New York Jets — the first of two consecutive games in New Jersey (Week 2 sees the Bills play the New York Giants, also at MetLife Stadium) — before welcoming the Cincinnati Bengals to New Era Field Sept. 22 for the home opener.
The first quarter of the season concludes Sept. 29 when Tom Brady and the arch-rival New England Patriots come to New Era Field. What will the Bills record look like after the first four games? Boccacino has Buffalo getting off to a 3-1 start, while D’Amico sees the Bills going 2-2.
The Bills have their bye in Week 6, earlier than in the past, and both Boccacino and D’Amico see Buffalo sporting a winning record heading into the bye week. Which is good, because after the bye, the Bills enter a critical stretch of three straight home games against the Miami Dolphins (Oct. 20), Philadelphia (Oct. 27), and Washington (Nov. 3).
As for the rest of the season, our podcasters are rather bullish on Buffalo’s chances of remaining in the hunt for a playoff berth. With three of their last five games against 2018 playoff opponents (Week 13 at the Dallas Cowboys, Week 14 vs. the Ravens, and Week 16 at the Patriots), along with a Week 15 road game against the Pittsburgh Steelers and a Week 17 showdown at home with the Jets, this is clearly the toughest portion of the schedule.
Do the Bills qualify for the playoffs for the second time in two years, or will Allen and the offense struggle to get into a rhythm this year? Check out the latest episode of Billieve to find out!
