Another former Panthers defensive back in the mix.

The Buffalo Bills are signing former Carolina Panthers and Minnesota Vikings starting cornerback Captain Munnerlyn, according to reports. Munnerlyn spent time with Sean McDermott from 2011 to 2013 when they were both in Carolina.

Munnerlyn was originally drafted by the Panthers in the seventh round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He played five seasons in Carolina before spending three years with the Vikings then returning to the Panthers for the last two years. He was released on February 25th and had been on the free-agent market for the intervening time.

He hasn’t been a full-time starter since 2014, but played in all 16 games for Carolina a year ago with an interception, nine passes defended, a fumble recovery, two sacks, and 47 tackles.

The Bills had an open roster spot after placing veteran cornerback E.J. Gaines on injured reserve with a groin injury that was expected to keep him out three to six weeks.
