The Buffalo Bills lost another offensive lineman to injury, this time during Friday night’s preseason game against the Detroit Lions.
Quinton Spain, the presumed starter at left guard, is out for the game with an ankle injury. He was injured early in the second quarter during a running play. Another player rolled up on his leg from behind while he was opening a hole for Frank Gore.
Spain is the latest casualty of the offseason and/or preseason along the offensive line. The Bills also have Mitch Morse (concussion), Ty Nsekhe (knee), and Russell Bodine (oblique) injured at the moment.
Ike Boettger replaced Spain in the starting lineup at left guard, leapfrogging last year’s starter for the last part of the season, second-year man Wyatt Teller. Spain was able to walk off the field under his own power, though he did so gingerly. The good news is that he was able to walk off on his own.
When the Bills provide more information on the injury, we will pass it along.
UPDATE
Walking boot to control for swelling and flight back to Buffalo. Crutches to off-weight the ankle to reduce pain. Likely sprain, foot/ankle was stepped on when he was falling down blocking for Gore. #Bills https://t.co/qz5VvbNNvp
