This headline is one that keeps coming up in the corner’s career

Head coach Sean McDermott addressed some of the Buffalo Bills’ injury woes during his Tuesday morning press conference, and he provided an update on oft-injured veteran cornerback E.J. Gaines.

Gaines, who injured his groin during practice on Sunday, is expected to miss “weeks,” according to McDermott. The veteran corner has spent much of his career dealing with injury issues, as he has only managed to play in 43 games since entering the league in 2014. During his first stint in Buffalo in 2017, Gaines played in 11 games, which is the second-highest total in his career.

Gaines was re-signed this spring to compete for the second corner job across from Tre’Davious White. Second-year man Levi Wallace is listed as the starter there on the team’s first official depth chart, with fellow oft-injured veteran Kevin Johnson listed with Gaines as the second-team corners.

Given Gaines’s extensive injury history, this should come as no surprise that he is already missing time. It will be interesting to see if some young players can step up with more opportunity in Gaines’s absence. If they do, the veteran’s spot on the roster could be in jeopardy.
