The Buffalo Bills know they need an upgrade at punter, and they took their shot with the best one available. Ultimately, Pro Bowl alternate Britton Colquitt signed with the Minnesota Vikings—but that’s not the entire story.
Colquitt was released by the Cleveland Browns this week, and many Buffalo fans immediately wanted the Bills to get on board—and it turns out they did. The punter was on his way to Buffalo when his former coach gave him a call. Current Vikings assistant and former Denver Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak sold Colquitt on Minnesota. The pair worked together in Denver.
It’s not what you know, it’s who you know.
The Bills still have options to replace punter Corey Bojorquez, who struggled during the preseason. Buffalo added Bojorquez at this time last year, so they have experience putting in a punter and holder who has just a few days’ experience within the system.
