List of obvious Buffalo Bills QB options is short with Josh Allen in concussion protocol

Buffalo hasn’t rotated a lot of QBs.

The Buffalo Bills could be without quarterback Josh Allen for a while, as the second-year signal caller took a huge shot to the head in Sunday’s loss to the New England Patriots. Now in the league’s concussion protocol, Buffalo is going to need to look at adding another QB to back up Matt Barkley.

Here’s a list of names to watch:

Davis Webb

Currently on Buffalo’s practice squad, Webb was added after final cutdowns. Webb is a former third-round draft pick of the New York Giants and spent the 2018 season and 2019 offseason with the New York Jets. He’s the most logical addition at this point.

Tyree Jackson

Signed as a UDFA project out of the University at Buffalo, Jackson was released during final cutdowns and many expected him back on the practice squad. When the Bills added Webb instead, it seemed like the final nail in the proverbial coffin. Maybe Jackson could return and he is currently a free agent.

Derek Anderson

Anderson retired when Buffalo brought in Jackson. He also suffered a considerable concussion in 2018. Has he been staying in shape during his months away from the game?

Matt Cassel

Cassel was staying in shape this offseason, trying to come back from one last go-round in the right situation. Could that be in Buffalo? It’s a new regime since he was traded under Rex Ryan.

Colin Kapernick

It’s unlikely Buffalo will give the former starter a shot on a short-term play like this, but we have to list him, right?

Tom Savage, Brandon Weeden, Brock Osweiler, and Cardale Jones could also get some phone calls.
