The evaluation process for draft prospects is always in full swing for teams behind the scenes, but what truly marks the beginning of draft season are all-star bowl games, starting with today’s East-West Shrine Game and NFLPA Collegiate Bowl. Traditionally, both games are for second-, third-day and future undrafted NFL prospects, looking to add a bit of momentum before the combine. Every year there are a couple of players who play well, during the Shrine Game in particular, and earn a move up to the Senior Bowl. If you’re looking for some draft diamonds-in-the-rough, these are the games where you’ll notice them.
Last year, former Purdue quarterback David Blough managed to outplay his colleagues with a 66-percent completion rate. After going undrafted, he was traded by the Cleveland Browns to the Detroit Lions and managed to start five games for them because of injury.
As always, let’s talk about the game, leave questions on prospects and enjoy.
