On Monday morning, the Buffalo Bills announced that they have signed ten players to reserve/future contracts. These players, who were part of Buffalo’s practice squad in 2019, would have been free to sign with any team in the 2020 offseason, but Buffalo will keep them under contract through the preseason, at least.
Every member of Buffalo’s practice squad, with the exception of offensive lineman Brandon Hitner, was tendered a contract. The full list of tendered players:
- TE Nate Baker
- LB Tyrel Dodson
- WR Nick Easley
- CB Cam Lewis
- WR Ray-Ray McCloud III
- LB Del’Shawn Phillips
- T Victor Salako
- RB Christian Wade
- QB Davis Webb
- DE Jonathan Woodard
A few of those names may be more familiar than others. McCloud was a sixth-round pick in 2018, who spent time this year playing for the Carolina Panthers, was cut, and returned to Buffalo’s practice squad. Wade, of course, made waves as a European transfer with explosive playmaking ability in the 2019 preseason. He spent this year as an uncounted 11th man on the practice squad, but would play with the same rules as everyone else in 2020.
The Bills did promote a few practice-squad players in an uncharacteristically injury-free season, so being part of that list isn’t a bad job prospect. The most notable call-up this year was probably wide receiver Duke Williams.
