Buffalo Bills defensive line coach Bill Teerlinck hired at Virginia Tech

He coached for three years with the Bills.

The Virginia Tech Hokies have hired Bill Teerlinck as their defensive line coach, the program announced Wednesday. Teerlink, who just finished his third year with the Buffalo Bills, had been the team’s defensive line coach for the past two seasons, making this an uncommon lateral move.

In 2019, Teerlinck’s group turned in a solid season, with career years from Jordan Phillips and Shaq Lawson, as well as a great rookie year out of first-round pick Ed Oliver. He was also known to have a good rapport with Oliver. On the other hand, two veterans in the group, Jerry Hughes and Trent Murphy, had quieter seasons than years past.

At Virginia Tech, Teerlinck will reunite with his friend Justin Fuentes, the team’s head coach. The two coached together at Illinois State in 2005.

The Bills have not made any announcement about a corresponding hire or coaching search at this time.
