The Buffalo Bills called up linebacker Andre Smith and cornerback Dane Jackson to the active roster for Tuesday night’s game against the Tennessee Titans.
Jackson has yet to see NFL action after being drafted in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft. With Tre’Davious White out and Levi Wallace on injured reserve, the Bills may need reinforcements at the position behind Josh Norman and presumptive starter Cam Lewis. If he does start, Lewis will be making the first start of his career after being undrafted out of the University at Buffalo in 2019. It’s going to be all hands on deck at cornerback with Taron Johnson and Siran Neal possibly getting looks outside, as well. You can expect lots of zone from the Bills’ defense tonight instead of man-to-man to limit the confusion between members of the secondary.
Smith has a longer NFL career than Jackson. Smith played in one game off Buffalo’s practice squad this year but has 19 starts over the last two years for the Carolina Panthers. With Matt Milano sidelined and Del’Shawn Phillips on injured reserve, reinforcements at linebacker could be necessary.
The Bills chose not to elevate an offensive lineman, which could be good news for Brian Winters and Cody Ford who were listed as questionable. Ike Boettger and Ryan Bates would be the most likely interior linemen to come in if someone is hurt with Quinton Spain unexpectedly injured during pregame.
