The Speed Option: Kansas City Chiefs

The Bills face the defending Super Bowl Champs on Monday night

NFL: Buffalo Bills at Kansas City Chiefs Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

The Buffalo Bills will face off against another former AFL team on Monday when they take on the Kansas City Chiefs at Bills Stadium. Here is a quick overview of the defending Super Bowl champions.

2020 Summary

Just like the Bills, the Chiefs are coming off their first loss of the 2020 season. The Chiefs’ unbeaten record was tarnished last week by the Las Vegas Raiders. Prior to that they tallied wins against the Houston Texans, Los Angeles Chargers, Baltimore Ravens, and New England Patriots.

Head Coach

Andy Reid, aka Big Red, has been the coach in Kansas City since 2013, and it does not look like he’ll be going anywhere soon. He is 86-41 (0.677 W-L%) in his eight seasons with the Chiefs. He has gone 12-4 in back-to-back seasons and won the Super Bowl last year.

Offensive Coordinator

Reid’s OC has been Eric Bieniemy since 2018. Bieniemy took over the OC job when Matt Nagy left to become the head coach of the Chicago Bears. Prior to that Beieniemy served as the running backs coach for the Chiefs. His offense currently ranks third in yards per game and eighth in points per game.

Defensive Coordinator

Directing the defense in Kansas City is Steve Spagnuolo. Spagnuolo joined the Chiefs as DC prior to the 2019 season. It was reunion for Big Red and him, as Spags coached defensive backs and linebackers under Reid for the Philadelphia Eagles. The defense is ranked 20th in yards per game allowed and 26th in points per game allowed.
