Buffalo Bills vs. Kansas City Chiefs: Surprising healthy scratches among Week Six inactives

Who’s in and who’s out today?

When the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs kick off today, the Bills will be without their starting tight end. This we already knew, as he was ruled out earlier in the week. With so many players having missed last week’s contest due to injury, however, the rest of the inactive list was a bit of a mystery.

Who’s in and who’s out? Here’s the whole list—and the answers may surprise you.

DE Trent Murphy

It was reported early Monday afternoon that Murphy was going to be a healthy scratch as the Bills try to shake up their defensive line rotation. The pass rush has not been getting home, so the Bills sit Murphy who was good against the run but hasn’t generated much off the edge in the passing game.

DT Harrison Phillips

The same report listed Phillips as a potential healthy scratch. He hasn’t worked back to his early 2019 form since his ACL injury. The Bills will go with a more penetrating defensive line against the Chiefs and try to create pressure from the interior.

QB Jake Fromm

Different week, same story for Buffalo’s emergency quarterback, who remains bubbled in case of injury.

RB T.J. Yeldon

With rookie Zack Moss ready to return after a toe injury, the veteran is back to healthy scratch status on game days, even after a game where he produced solid numbers, albeit in a blowout.

TE Dawson Knox

The starting tight end is out, missing his second game of the season. He missed the game against the Los Angeles Rams with a concussion, but this time Knox has a calf injury. Lee Smith is active as a result.

G Quinton Spain

After missing last week’s game thanks to a foot injury, Spain practiced in full on Thursday, but was limited on Friday in the lead-up to the game. Ike Boettger is active in his place.

LB Matt Milano

After missing a game with a pectoral strain, Milano returned to practice this week. Unfortunately for the Bills, he isn’t ready to play quite yet. Tyrel Dodson will see additional time as a result. On the bright side, Tremaine Edmunds is active despite a late-breaking return to the injury list on Friday.

And here are the Chiefs inactives:
