The Buffalo Bills have activated TE Lee Smith from the Reserve/COVID-19 list one week after he landed there thanks to an exposure in a team meeting. Last Saturday, Dawson Knox received positive results after sitting in close contact with Smith, Tommy Sweeney, and practice squad TE Nate Becker on the preceding Friday.
Interestingly, Sweeney and Becker remain on the COVID list. Neither were on the active roster last week, with Sweeney on the PUP list, so maybe it’s just procedural. They don’t need Sweeney or Becker for Sunday, so might as well keep them on the list. Knox remains on the list and was also dealing with a concussion.
The only true tight end that was able to play last week was Tyler Kroft, who missed the Friday meeting with the birth of his daughter. Kroft played 78% of the team’s offensive snaps and was supplemented by H-back Reggie Gilliam who played 18%.
With bad weather anticipated Sunday, it will be good to have Smith active to hopefully improve the run game.
