Post-Buffalo Bills AFC East Champions Sunday NFL open thread

That was a fun headline to write.

Now that the Buffalo Bills have taken care of business by clinching their first AFC East Division title in 25 years, we Bills fans can watch a full slate of Sunday football in peace. With Buffalo’s seat at the table no longer an issue of if they’ll be invited, but what seat number they’ll occupy, all that’s left to do is watch and wait.

The key games for Buffalo involve the Kansas City Chiefs and the Pittsburgh Steelers. We need the Chiefs to lose two games, and a date with the New Orleans Saints may be the most realistic possible loss of all remaining on their schedule. That contest kicks off tonight at 4:25 p.m. EST. The Steelers play the Cincinnati Bengals tomorrow night, and if they could make like the late, great Tom Petty and keep Free Fallin’, it would certainly help Buffalo’s outside hopes at securing the AFC’s top seed.

In the early slate, the Miami Dolphins have the chance to drive the final nail into the New England Patriots’ coffin, as the Pats would be officially eliminated from playoff contention with a loss today. A win would also help Miami as they jockey for position in a brutal AFC Wildcard field, as the Dolphins, Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans, Indianapolis Colts, and Las Vegas Raiders all have varying chances at securing their spots in the playoff tournament.

It’s likely that a team will win ten games and miss the playoffs in the AFC. Fortunately, we don’t have to worry about that situation. Your open thread is here, friends. Enjoy the day!
