Despite coronavirus concerns, 2020 NFL league year will start this week

The 2020 NFL league year is on like Donkey Kong. There will be no delay in the start of the 2020 league year due to the coronavirus of any other reason. The legal tampering period begins on Monday at noon and the league year officially kicks off on Wednesday.

Here are the main timestamps you need to know:

  • Tonight at midnight EDT: Deadline to apply the franchise tag
  • Monday at noon EDT: Legal tampering window opens
  • Wednesday at 4 p.m. EDT: New league year begins

After negotiations between the NFL Players Association and the league, it was decided they would not move back the beginning of the 2020 league year. Because it’s not a fan event with crowds and most of the work can be done remotely, there wasn’t the immense pressure to delay the free-agency period.

Team owners are said to be fueling up private jets to transport players to team facilities for their physicals. That’s the only in-person portion of the next few weeks that needs to be completed.

At Buffalo Rumblings, we’ll have you covered during the start of the new league year. While we’re practicing social distancing, there’s not a lot of other things we can do.
