The Buffalo Bills had interest in WR Emmanuel Sanders

Sanders’s indecision may have led the Bills to the Stefon Diggs trade

NFL: San Francisco 49ers at Arizona Cardinals Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

During an appearance on Rich Eisen’s radio show, now New Orleans Saints wide receiver, Emmanuel Sanders mentioned that he and the Buffalo Bills had discussions before he eventually signed with the Saints.

On the show, Sanders said “I spoke with the Bills for a little bit and I told them let me think about the idea and give me a night and, like, 30 minutes later the Stefon Diggs deal went through and I was like, ‘okay.’” Sanders went on to say that he also talked with the Green Bay Packers and his former team, the San Francisco 49ers, before eventually deciding to join Sean Payton and Drew Brees in New Orleans.

Sanders and the Bills have prior history, as the Bills tried to trade for the wide receiver last season when the Denver Broncos were shopping him around. That time it was the Niners who ended up landing Sanders.

Sanders’s indecision seemed to be enough to push general manager Brandon Beane and the rest of the Bills’ front office to pull the trigger on sending a handful of picks—including this year’s first—to the Minnesota Vikings for their star receiver. If you were in Brandon Beane’s position what would you have done? Wait for Sanders or swing for the fences and give up the assets to get Diggs?
