Every team relies on rookie deals and cheaper veterans to round out their roster. When they overperform, the team overperforms. The Buffalo Bills are no exception and during the 2019 season they had a solid group of overperforming players.
Coming in at number six on our countdown is linebacker Tremaine Edmunds. Edmunds started all 16 games for the Bills in 2019 notching an interception, nine passes defended, 1.5 sacks, and led the team with 115 tackles including ten for a loss. He also led the defense in snaps played with 981. (It would have been more, but he was held out of most of the Week 17 game.)
In addition to the Pro Bowl nod and great stats, Edmunds called the plays for a top-three defense at just 21 years of age.
All-in-all, Edmunds ranked as the 29th-highest cap hits among inside linebackers in 2019 at just under $2.9 million. Bobby Wagner topped the list at $15.85 million, while A.J. Klein, who the Bills signed this offseason, made $5.675 with the New Orleans Saints. The Pittsburgh Steelers had three inside linebackers make more than Edmunds and the Detroit Lions had two.
Edmunds is well on his way to cashing in at the end of his rookie contract.
