2019 Best Bang for the Dollar Bills: Tre’Davious White

White is an All-Pro playing on his rookie deal.

Every team relies on rookie deals and cheaper veterans to round out their roster. When they overperform, the team overperforms. The Buffalo Bills are no exception and during the 2019 season they had a solid group of overperforming players.

Coming in at number four on our countdown is cornerback Tre’Davious White. White started the first 15 games of the season, and played in at least 92% of the snaps in all of those games, before sitting out Week 17 with the playoff position clinched. His stats were great, picking off six passes and defending 17 more to lead the team in both categories, while adding 58 tackles, two forced fumbles, and a sack.

In addition to the Pro Bowl nod and great stats, White was named first-team All-Pro in 2019. Simply put, he was outstanding.

All-in-all, White was the 59th-highest cap hit among cornerbacks in the league, but was one of the two best. At just over $2.75 million, he made less money that fellow Bills cornerback Kevin Johnson ($3 million) and former Bills CBs Ronald Darby ($2.825 million), Ross Cockrell ($3.95 million), Nickell Robey-Coleman ($6.05 million), and fellow All-Pro Stephon Gilmore ($9.17 million). Chicago’s Kyle Fuller led the league with an $18 million cap hit.

White is well on his way to cashing in at the end of his rookie contract, and Buffalo just kept him around through at least the 2021 season by exercising their fifth-year option of his rookie contract.
