A Salute To Our Workers

BillsFanChick made a fanpost with a link to a great article written by our very own Dion Dawkins that was published in the Player's Tribune. Please take a few minutes to read it, it's great. If you're someone who has been schlepping into work throughout the pandemic it might boost your spirits a little to know that you are appreciated. Everyone who works is doing their little bit to make the world-go-round and it's all important, but those have to do it on site and especially on the "front lines" are making an extra sacrifice right now that we should not begin to take for granted.

I am fortunate enough that I can mostly work from home (though this does come with its own challenges) and only go in when needed but the love of my life works in healthcare and cannot. And let me tell you, wearing PPE on your face all day SUCKS. And if you have a health condition, are elderly, or come into frequent contact with family members that are, going into work REALLY SUCKS. My situation in life gives me no real reason for concern of the virus but that is not the case for everyone. Some people have to go to work every day knowing full well that if they brought the virus home it could cause serious illness or death for a loved one in their life. Most people aren't thrilled about going to work every day as it is now imagine having that extra burden placed on you.

And with limited exceptions, there is no "hazard pay" for most of us. Same job, same pay. Or worse, many of us watched as our coworkers got laid off and those of us that remained got told that we needed to "do more with less." So more work, same pay. In some cases, people's pay is even going down too. At a bare minimum, no raises and/or benefits cuts can be expected for most of us as the companies we work for struggle along.

So anyways, thank you to Dion for writing the article and thank you to our workers for still getting it done every day despite the extra challenges. And an EXTRA thank you to the workers who don't have the relative luxury of working at home or in an otherwise especially safe environment. You are the real MVPs.
