Report: Buffalo Bills’ winning ways kept Brian Daboll from Los Angeles Chargers job

As had been speculated

As had been speculated was possibly the case, the Buffalo Bills continuing to win is what caused the Los Angeles Chargers to move away from hiring offensive coordinator Brian Daboll as their next head coach. With the Bills continuing to play, the Chargers wanted to move quicker than waiting for the Buffalo’s offensive coordinator says Adam Schefter.

Daboll had widely been considered the front-runner but the job ultimately went to Los Angeles Rams’ defensive coordinator Brandon Staley. His team was eliminated during Wild Card weekend.

If the Bills win this weekend, Daboll and defensive coordinator/assistant head coach Leslie Frazier can interview with teams over the next couple days, but still can’t be hired until after the Super Bowl. If Buffalo loses, they can be hired immediately.

Frazier and Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy are finalists for the Houston Texans’ opening, which could mean the loser of today’s game ends up winning the head coaching job in Houston. With Houston being the only team looking for a head coach, they may be waiting to fill the role, but several new head coaches are already assembling coaching staffs.
