One-Stat Recap: the Buffalo Bills fall short against the Tennessee Titans

For the second year in a row, the Buffalo Bills traveled down to Nashville to face the Tennessee Titans in a primetime game, and for the second year row the team suffered a disappointing loss. Unlike last year the Bills looked to be the better team for most of the game this year, but in the end they didn’t do enough to secure a victory.

Many things went wrong, both offensively and defensively, but the issue shouldering the majority of the blame should be the Bills’ lack of success in the red zone. Josh Allen drove the offense into the red zone five times on Monday night, but they only left celebrating a touchdown twice on those five trips. That 40 percent red zone touchdown percentage was tied for third worst in the league in Week 6. The Dallas Cowboys were the only team with a percentage below 50 percent in Week 6 to win their game.

On the season, the Bills rank 26th in red zone touchdown percentage at 55.17 percent. They ended last season at 12th with a 61.04 percentage. The Bills rank first this season in red zone trips, which could be viewed as positive, but it does make their touchdown rate all the more frustrating. I’d hazard a guess that red zone offense is a major focus over the bye week to prevent this becoming the Bills’ Achilles’ heel.
