Jaguars cornerback calls out Buffalo Bills’ energy following upset

Matt Warren is Associate Director of NFL coverage for SB Nation and previously covered the Bills for Buffalo Rumblings for more than a decade.

The Buffalo Bills put on a dispirited display Sunday in their 9-6 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. The team previously leading the NFL in scoring couldn’t muster a single touchdown drive and saw their streak of 20+ games with 20+ first downs snapped by a defense in the bottom five in every major statistical category. Jacksonville doubled their takeaway numbers on the year in this one game.

So what’s the deal?

“I was just looking on their sideline, and one thing I noted is I was like, ‘they don’t have the same energy as us,’” Jags CB Shaquill Griffin said after the game. “I feel like if you feel like one team deserved this win, it’s us, but you’ve got to believe that. So that’s one thing I kept preaching at everybody else. ‘Look on the sidelines, watching them walking around, it’s like they don’t care. They don’t deserve this. Let’s show them why.’”

That’s a pretty terrible quote for Bills head coach Sean McDermott, who always preaches process and giving your all in everything all the time. If the Bills didn’t care about this game and keeping pace with the rest of the AFC, something needs to change quickly.

The Jaguars were “holding” opponents to 29 points per game heading into Sunday, and Buffalo was only able to muster one sustained drive that eventually stalled in the red zone.
