On the latest episode of the Billieve Podcast, in the fifth installment of our State of the Buffalo Bills series, hosts John Boccacino and Jamie D’Amico break down and review the contributions the Bills received from their offensive linemen in 2020.
While the Bills set a franchise record for points scored (501) last year, the offense was not without its warts. We discuss the offensive line’s strengths (pass protection) and weaknesses (run blocking) as Buffalo’s linemen did a great job at protecting quarterback Josh Allen (sacked only 26 times, eighth-fewest in the league) while more often than not failing to open up holes for the running backs, ranking 20th in yards per rush.
This was going to be a heavily-scrutinized position this offseason, but general manager Brandon Beane has already taken steps to improve the o-line, re-signing right tackle Daryl Williams to a team-friendly three-year contract extension while getting center Mitch Morse to restructure his contract.
We address what retaining Williams means for the o-line, analyze why Dion Dawkins is a rock at left tackle, speculate on whether Cody Ford can live up to his potential as a starting guard, discuss the pros and cons of bringing back guard Jon Feliciano, and assess Morse’s play as the anchor of the offensive line.
We also speculate on whether the Bills should bring back guard Ike Boettger and tackle Ty Nsekhe, explore whether swingman Ryan Bates can step in and provide solid production, say goodbye to guard Brian Winters, discuss the potential of tackle Trey Adams, and more.
