2021 NFL Free Agency: Andre Smith contract details

Matt Warren is Associate Director of NFL coverage for SB Nation and previously covered the Bills for Buffalo Rumblings for more than a decade.

The Buffalo Bills re-signed linebacker Andre Smith two weeks ago, but details have only just now become available on his contract. They’re here now, via Over the Cap, and he’ll make slightly more than the veteran minimum, but it’s a bargain-basement contract for the former seventh-round pick who was a Restricted Free Agent. It’s certainly less than the RFA tender of $2.1 million.

Smith gets a $250,000 signing bonus on his two-year deal, so half will count in 2021 and half in 2022. A $47,500 workout bonus can be earned in both offseasons. The minimum salary for a third-year player is $920,000 but he can also earn up to $50,000 in per-game roster bonuses at $3,125 a pop. $50,000 of his salary is guaranteed, so his dead cap number is $300,000 if released.

The salary in 2022 is also for the minimum salary for a fifth-year player while the workout and per-game bonuses carry over.
