Buffalo Bills announce front-office changes following Dan Morgan departure, Jim Overdorf stepping back

Buffalo Bills director of player personnel Dan Morgan was recently hired by the Carolina Panthers to be their assistant general manager. With his departure, the Bills have restructured their front office and announced the changes Tuesday morning.

Instead of promoting one man to fill Morgan’s position, the Bills have given additional responsibilities to men already in their power structure. Terrance Gray has been promoted from director of college scouting to assistant director of player personnel, a new position. Malik Boyd, who had been serving as the team’s director of pro personnel, will now be the the senior director of pro scouting, another new position. In addition to the promotions for Gray and Boyd, senior personnel advisor Brian Gaine will share some of Morgan’s responsibilities.

For Gray, this adds pro scouting to his plate. For Boyd, he will have more college responsibility. General manager Brandon Beane specifically said this will allow them to broaden their resumes for a move up in the future.

One very large change was in the role of lead negotiator, where Jim Overdorf is transitioning out of the role in favor of Kevin Meganck. Joining the Bills in 1986, Overdorf has been the team’s vice president of football operations but will now be the senior advisor to the general manager. He will still be a major voice in contract negotiations, but won’t be the point person any more. Meganck has been with the Bills since 2004 working with Overdorf.

The Bills did make one hire in the scouting department, adding Andrea Gosper in a full-time role after serving as a scouting intern for the last two seasons. “Her new job responsibilities will consist of about 75 percent college scouting, 25 percent pro scouting and administrative work,” according to Beane in the team’s press release.

Several other lower-level promotions were also announced Tuesday. Curtis Rukavina will be the assistant director of pro scouting/free agency and Chris Marrow will be the assistant director of pro scouting/team advances. RJ Webb will move into the role of a pro scout after being a scouting assistant. Tyler Pratt has been promoted to area scout from personnel coordinator.

In the analytics department, Evan Weiss will be a football analyst after previously interning with the Bills in that department.
