Buffalo Bills Links, 5/21: Expectations for Buffalo’s rookies in 2021

Plus, Buffalo continues to lead the charge in hiring female coaches.

General manager Brandon Beane and head coach Sean McDermott have assembled quite the roster for the Buffalo Bills heading into the 2021 season. Competition for a roster spot is going to be stiff for the eight rookies the Bills drafted, and in today’s edition of the Bills daily links, we discuss what the expectations should be for these rookies this fall.

Edge rushers Gregory Rousseau and Carlos “Boogie” Basham Jr. both should have a chance to step in and contribute along a crowded defensive line as Buffalo looks for more consistency out of its pass rush. Tackle Spencer Brown could serve as a valuable backup from day one, safety Damar Hamlin might have the clearest path to a roster spot, while Tommy Doyle will look to secure a spot on the 53-man roster. We run through the entire class to see how they could contribute this year.

We also break down the newest members of Buffalo’s coaching staff as the Bills continue to lead the charge in the hiring of female coaches, analyze the wisdom of McDermott’s decisions to go for it on fourth down, debate Josh Allen’s omission from Pro Football Focus’ top five QBs heading into 2021, learn more about recent free-agent addition Treyvon Hester, speculate on Buffalo’s interest in free-agent cornerback Steven Nelson, and more!
