What if someone told you they had the audacity to miss a Buffalo Bills game? What if you could show them one play, and one play only, to recap the whole thing? What play would you choose? Welcome to Plays that defined 2020...
Week 10: Buffalo Bills at Arizona Cardinals
The Bills had just beaten the crud out of the Seattle Seahawks to get to seven wins. Blah blah blah, Hail Mary. Buffalo looked to continue their winning ways by toppling the Arizona blah blah blah, Hail Mary. The Cardinals kept it close most of the blah blah blah, Hail Mary. Some last-second theatrics from both teams ended with a Buffalo loss after something happened, though I’m a bit fuzzy on the details.
Isaiah McKenzie touchdown (Q1, 6:31)
Overall the Bills were electric. They were fun to watch. They were creative. Pulling across the formation in his usual role, Isaiah McKenzie turns around and delivers the ball to a very determined Josh Allen. You’re not going to vote for this play are you? Come on, it’s a great choice.
Singletary Unnecessary Roughness (Q4, 7:59)
Maybe this one? Buffalo and Arizona were two of the most heavily penalized teams at this point in the season and together they earned 20 flags (16 assessed). This unnecessary roughness on Devin Singletary was the correct call (explained here). It was one of four penalties on this drive in the fourth quarter. After a quick first down on the first play of the drive, the Bills gained 57 yards but ultimately punted after failing to gain another first down when most of those yards were called back. In the actual grand scheme of things, they moved forward two yards.
Stefon Diggs touchdown (Q4, 0:39)
The Bills did recover from that heavily penalized series. They had been down by three and managed to hold off the Cardinals from adding any more points. With just over half a minute to go Josh Allen dropped what should have been the game-winning pass to Stefon Diggs on this jaw-dropping connection. This is another great play to pick as Allen threw the ball 49 times—the most of any game last season.
Hail Murray (Q4, 0:11)
Will we have our first unanimous vote for one of these? You might notice there’s only four plays this time rather than the usual five. It was suggested to add some better memories to go with this one. I very nearly wrote this with only the lone GIF for this play.
It’s time to vote for the play that defined the game. Remember, it’s the play that best tells the overall story of this contest, not necessarily a favorite play or best highlight.
