Play That Defined 2020 Tournament: Round Two—Away Games

The tourney begins in earnest

We’ve crowned a play to define every game of the 2020 season but we’re not stopping there. It’s time to define the entire season with a single play. It’s play vs. play as fan favorites face off! As usual, it’s the play that best defines or tells the story of the season, which might not be the best highlight.

This is our first “full round” after our lowest-seeded plays battled to get into the main tournament. We begin with the Away “Conference.” Seeding was determined by percentage of votes received in each play’s respective game (noted in parentheses).

Editor’s note: In order to vote in the polls, you will need to use a browser on your device. If you’re in a news app, you won’t be able to see the polls.

At Kansas City Chiefs—Allen sacked, sea of flags (73 percent)

vs.

At San Francisco 49ers—Knox touchdown (35 percent)

Josh Allen and the Hotheads faces off against one of the most memorable scores of the season. Knox’s touchdown earns the right to enter the full tournament after knocking off the interception from the Titans game. The Knox TD represents the lowest winning percentage of any play this year. Will the underdog story continue?

At Denver Broncos—HUUUUUUGHES Touchdown (66 percent)

vs.

At Miami Dolphins—Allen to Brown TD puts Allen over 400 yards (62 percent)

It’s touchdown vs. touchdown as a smackdown of the Broncos squares off against an offensive explosion that took down the Dolphins. It’s the old-look Bills vs. the new-look Bills.

At Arizona Cardinals—The siiiiiiiiiiigh...Hail Mary (72 percent)

vs.

At New England Patriots—Diggs touchdown (52 percent)

I was a bit surprised when I tallied a lot of the voting. I thought the Hail Mary would be very close to 100 percent but it landed at the second seed with only 72 percent of the total. As you can tell, I’d rather not discuss the play itself. It finds itself pitted against a Stefon Diggs touchdown after he went off on the Patriots. Now THAT was fun!

At Las Vegas Raiders—Josh Norman forced fumble (68 percent)

vs.

At New York Jets—Tyler Bass record-setting field goal (55 percent)

Josh Norman made a huge play on defense to help the Bills distance themselves from the Raiders as Buffalo put themselves on the map early in a full team effort. That goes against Tyler Bass’s record-setting field goal. I don’t know if I highlighted this well in the game recap but what I want you to note is that Bass isn’t facing his sideline. Make of that what you will.
