Buffalo Bills’ top-ten best 2020 salary cap values: No. 4—CB Levi Wallace

Buffalo’s CB2 was solid on a cheap deal

The Buffalo Bills always seem to sign a veteran corner to compete for snaps across from Tre’Davious White. And while they tend to add a new veteran every year, the result ends up the same: The incumbent starter, a college walk-on and undrafted free-agent signing, keeps the job.

For this reason alone, the Bills can point to their CB2 as a plus value in terms of both on-field production and the salary cap, as his play has far exceeded his pay. Coming in at number four on our list of the Buffalo Bills’ best salary cap values from 2020 is the man slated to play across from Buffalo’s All-Pro cornerback.

2020 Salary Cap Figure: $697,058 (.22 percent of Buffalo’s salary cap)
2020 Stats: 48 tackles, one tackle for loss, one quarterback hit, two interceptions, eight pass breakups

In Wallace’s 12 regular-season games, he was sound in coverage once again. While he allowed more yards per completion (13.6) than he did in 2019, he only allowed 57.7 percent of the passes thrown his way to be completed. In the playoffs, Wallace also made a solid impact, notching 12 tackles, a sack, a tackle for loss, and a quarterback hit. Wallace appeared on 57 percent of the Bills’ defensive snaps, which was third among Buffalo corners behind White and Taron Johnson. While there were games early on (the first meeting with the Miami Dolphins comes to mind) where he was beaten regularly by larger receivers, he played better as the year progressed. Wallace certainly has his limitations, as he is a solid zone defender and far less so in man coverage, but he serves his purpose well. It’s not often that a team can sign an undrafted free agent and trust him to start 35 games in his first three seasons. It’s even less common for those 35 starts to go well while the player continually fends off challenges from veterans. Wallace has been a solid contributor for the Bills since he entered the league, and he earned his place on our list of the best salary cap values of the 2020 season.
