The Play That Defines the 2020 Buffalo Bills Season Is...

Drum roll please

Nineteen plays were crowned as the “defining” moment that told the story of their respective games. These noble GIFs entered arguably the greatest offseason tournament in the world, for the right to be called the Play That Defined the 2020 Buffalo Bills season. After an epic skirmish, the dust has settled and the King has been crowned.

Ladies and gentleman, fans of all ages, I am proud to present the play that will forever define the 2020 season! A round of applause for...

THE Interception

It’s nearly a guarantee this play needs no introduction but let’s do one anyway. Both the Bills and the Baltimore Ravens were struggling to put points on the board in the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs. Toward the end of the third quarter, the Ravens were looking to tie the score at ten. Lamar Jackson wound up, saw his man in the end zone, released the ball and...

Taron Johnson tied an NFL Playoff record with a 101-yard interception return for a touchdown.

This is the part where I usually find amazing comments from the voters who supported this play, but this year Coral ate them all up. Instead, I’ll summarize some of the more common threads.

In addition to this being one of the most memorable sports moments, well...ever, fans voting for THE Interception remarked about the team unity on display as Tre’Davious White runs down to lead block. Matt Milano helped spring the play initially. We could go on. Some of you remarked that the “story” of the season was getting to the AFC Championship and this play sealed the deal. Whatever the train of thought, there are plenty of ways to illustrate the 2020 Bills with this play.

THE Interception joins former winners:

Kyle Williams’s Touchdown
Josh Allen Jumping Over Things
The Conversion

I’d like to close by thanking each and every person who took the time to read, vote, or otherwise engage in this year’s Plays That Defined Season. I hope you all enjoy this offseason tradition even half as much as I enjoy putting it together.

Matt Warren’s Take

I think the fans got this one wrong. It might be the most memorable play or the highlight of the year, but it’s not the play that defined the season. I would have gone with the nail in the coffin against the New England Patriots, which came in as the runner-up in the fan voting.

The 2020 season will be remembered as the year Josh Allen broke out with the help of Stefon Diggs and the Bills got the AFC East monkey off their backs. Josh Allen threaded the needle and surpassed 400 yards in the game when Stefon Diggs took this to the house. It ensured the Patriots finished with a losing record for the first time in ages.

Taron Johnson’s play is the Highlight of the Year. This one is the play that defined 2020:
