The Buffalo Bills have only been at practice for three days. They don’t even have full pads on yet. It was an unseasonably cool day at One Bills Drive. None of that mattered when two young players got into the first tussle of training camp on Friday.
According to Sal Capaccio of WGR 550 in Buffalo, third-year defensive tackle Ed Oliver and third-round rookie Spencer Brown were the culprits. Punches were thrown and Oliver ripped off Brown’s helmet, with Brown diving on top of the Oliver. Other players ran in to break it up.
Brown is taking first-team reps at left tackle with Dion Dawkins on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. He’s a rookie, a small school prospect, and hasn’t played football in a year outside of the Senior Bowl so if we’re guessing, Brown is being super-eager to prove he belongs and get back to hitting folks. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but without full pads, the veterans are probably in a different mindset.
We’ll keep you updated, but it’s probably not going to be an issue.
