The Buffalo Bills have largely avoided injuries during camp in the early stages. On Monday, that all changed with a laundry list of players sitting out.
WR Stefon Diggs (knee) and LB Matt Milano (mouth) both sat out practice. No timetable was given for the return of the cornerstones, but there is no need for either to rush back or play in Friday’s preseason opener.
OG Jon Feliciano (non-COVID illness) was the other starter that missed Monday. He is in a competition at left guard, rotating with Ike Boettger over the weekend with Cody Ford at right guard for the scrimmage.
Reserve OT Tommy Doyle also had a non-COVID illness and missed Monday. OG Forrest Lamp (calf) has missed multiple practices now, potentially torpedoing his chance at making the team.
Running back Christian Wade has also missed a few practices now with his should injury. He has a guaranteed practice squad spot coming and it won’t alter his chances.
DT Vernon Butler suffered a concussion on Saturday and it’s unlikely he will play this week.
Starting left tackle Dion Dawkins was spotted on the sideline for the first time this camp, working his way back from COVID-19. He has not been cleared to participate yet and he won’t play Friday, but he could suit up as early as Tuesday. I wouldn’t bet on seeing him on the field until next week.
Last but not least, DE Jerry Hughes still have not been activated from the Non-Football Injury list. He strained his calf working out before camp and as a veteran, should take it slow and steady working toward the season opener.
