Buffalo Bills defensive end Jerry Hughes activated from Non-Football Injury list

Matt Warren is Associate Director of NFL coverage for SB Nation and previously covered the Bills for Buffalo Rumblings for more than a decade.

Buffalo Bills defensive end Jerry Hughes hadn’t been seen at practice this training camp until Saturday. He arrived with a strained calf and has been working with trainers for a couple weeks. He worked out on the sideline over the weekend and Tuesday was activated from the Non-Football Injury (NFI) List.

The NFI list is for players who are injured away from the team facility. Hughes strained his calf while working out in preparation for camp. Hughes took his time getting fully healthy before coming back.

In the meantime, the Bills have been running the young guns at his position. A.J. Epenesa and Greg Rousseau have received first-team reps and Efe Obada took some snaps with the starters on Saturday. (The media is typically barred from discussing the depth chart but Saturday was an open practice with fans in attendance.)

Hughes is entering the final year of his contract and approaching age 33 by the end of the month.
