Who didn’t play for Buffalo Bills vs. Detroit Lions?

Matt Warren is Associate Director of NFL coverage for SB Nation and previously covered the Bills for Buffalo Rumblings for more than a decade.

The Buffalo Bills held most of their starters out of the game against the Detroit Lions. We knew that $258 million man Josh Allen wasn’t going to play, but the rest was a mystery. Here is a list of the players that didn’t see the field against the Lions:

Veteran rest

  • QB Josh Allen
  • RB Taiwan Jones
  • WR Cole Beasley
  • WR Stefon Diggs (knee)
  • WR Emmanuel Sanders
  • LT Dion Dawkins (conditioning)
  • RT Daryl Williams
  • C Mitch Morse
  • OG Jon Feliciano
  • DT Star Lotulelei
  • DE Jerry Hughes
  • DE Mario Addison
  • LB Tremaine Edmunds
  • LB A.J. Klein
  • LB Matt Milano
  • RB Zack Moss (hamstring)
  • CB Taron Johnson
  • CB Tre’Davious White
  • S Jordan Poyer
  • S Micah Hyde

While Moss was 50-50 to play, Dawkins is working his way back from COVID-19, and Stefon Diggs is dealing with a knee injury, the rest of this list are veteran players who were given the week off to avoid injury. They are roster locks.

Injury-related

  • RB Christian Wade (shoulder)
  • TE Bug Howard
  • OL Forrest Lamp (calf)
  • OL Caleb Benenoch
  • DT Vernon Butler (concussion)
  • DE Mike Love
  • LB Marquel Lee (COVID-19 list)

Only appeared on special teams

  • OL Tyler Gauthier
  • OL Marquel Harrell
  • OT Syrus Tuitele

The Bills need to release five players this week. These three players each got one single snap on special teams.
