Dion Dawkins will play, but most Buffalo Bills starters won’t play against Chicago Bears

Matt Warren is Associate Director of NFL coverage for SB Nation and previously covered the Bills for Buffalo Rumblings for more than a decade.

Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott told reporters on Friday morning that most of the team’s starters will not play against the Chicago Bears on Saturday. He mentioned quarterback Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs specifically in his list of players he is holding out.

One bit of positive news was that left tackle Dion Dawkins will play on his way back from COVID-19. Dawkins spent four days in the hospital battling the infection earlier this summer. He only returned to practice this week and McDermott wants to get him reps saying he’s “made significant progress” in practice this week.

Also suiting up for the first time this preseason will be RB Zack Moss, who was out with a hamstring injury in the first preseason game.

This means Mitchell Trubisky will get the start against his former team. The Bears picked Trubisky second overall in the 2017 NFL Draft but elected not to re-sign him this offseason.

Here are the players who sat out last Friday’s game against the Detroit Lions if you’re looking for who is likely to be out of action on Saturday.
