Reid Ferguson in street clothes so A.J. Epenesa is warming up at long snapper

Matt Warren is Associate Director of NFL coverage for SB Nation and previously covered the Bills for Buffalo Rumblings for more than a decade.

Buffalo Bills long snapped Reid Ferguson has missed the last two days of practice with a back injury. Warming up at the position today is second-year defensive end A.J. Epenesa. (For some reason I remember Harrison Phillips being an emergency long snapper but I can’t find it anywhere and he’s also injured.)

In a normal week, the Bills would be scrambling to sign a free agent at the position but in the preseason, it’s not exactly a priority. This likely means that if a real game was played today Ferguson would be snapping and that his injury is considered minor.

Ferguson is entering his fifth year with the Bills and has never missed a game. He signed a multi-year contract extension this offseason and his stated goal is to become the player to play in the most games in Bills history.

Losing a long snapper mid-game is the stuff of nightmares. Hopefully Ferguson will be back soon.

NOT BAD!
