The Speed Option: the Buffalo Bills head south to take on the Miami Dolphins

The Bills aim to get their first win of the season versus one of their division rivals

NFL: Miami Dolphins at Buffalo Bills Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

The 2021 season did not begin exactly how the Buffalo Bills would have liked. After suffering a demoralizing loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers mostly due to offensive woes, the Bills will hit the road and head south to take on their division rival, the Miami Dolphins. Here is a quick overview of the Fins.

2021 Season to date

The Dolphins opened up their season with a road trip to Foxborough to take on the New England Patriots. They left Massachusetts with head coach Brian Flores’ third win over his former boss, Bill Belichick.

Head Coach

Flores is in his third season as an NFL head coach — all of which have come with the Miami Dolphins. He is one game below .500 in his career with 16 wins and 17 losses.

Offensive Coordinator

Former Bills’ head coach Chan Gailey was the offensive coordinator for the Dolphins last season, but resigned at the end of the year. The Dolphins have replaced him with a tandem of coaches; Eric Studesville and George Godsey. They were promoted from running backs coach and tight ends coach, respectively. Through the first week of the season their offense ranks 22nd in points scored and 16th in yards gained.

Defensive Coordinator

Josh Boyer is in his second season as the Dolphins’ defensive coordinator. He was promoted to the position prior to last season after joining the Dolphins in 2019 as their defensive pass game coordinator and cornerbacks coach. Last season his defense ranked 5th in points per game allowed and 21st in yards per game allowed. Through one week of the 2021 season they appear to be repeating that performance, ranking 7th in PPG allowed and 17th in YPG allowed.
