The Speed Option: the Buffalo Bills play the Washington Football Team for the very first time

Unfortunately we won’t see Fitzmagic in action

NFL: Washington Redskins at Buffalo Bills Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

Fresh off their first win of the season, the Buffalo Bills return home to host the Washington Football Team. Unfortunately, we won’t get to see the return of Fitzmagic as Ryan Fitzpatrick was injured in Washington’s first game and was placed on IR. Keep reading for a quick update on Washington’s season, coaches, and starters.

2021 season summary

The capitol’s football team is currently 1-1 on the season, with both games coming down to the wire. Washington won the second of those two nail biters after a questionable offsides call on the New York Giants gave former Bill Dustin Hopkins a second opportunity to hit the game-winning field goal, which he took full advantage of—winning the game as the clock struck quadruple zero.

Head coach

Riverboat Ron Rivera is in his second season as the head ball coach in D.C. It is his 11th season as a head coach. The other nine seasons came as the head coach of the Carolina Panthers, where he won the NFC Championship in 2015. He has an 8-10 record with Washington and a 84-73-1 (0.535) overall record as a head coach.

Offensive coordinator

Scott Turner runs the offense in Washington for Rivera. He has been his OC for all of Rivera’s short tenure with the Football Team. He also served as the interim OC in Carolina after Rivera was let go and the prior-OC (and his father) Norv Turner was named special assistant to interim head coach, Perry Fewell. His offense currently ranks 16th in points per game and 22nd in yards per game.

Defensive coordinator

Former Jaguars and Raiders head coach, Jack Del Rio runs the defense for the Football Team. Just like Turner, he has been with Washington for all of Rivera’s tenure. His defense is currently ranked 16th in points per game allowed and 25th in yards per game allowed.
