Tua Tagovailoa heads to injured reserve after hit from A.J. Epenesa knocks him from Week 2

Buffalo Bills defensive end A.J. Epenesa laid a clean hit under Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s shoulder last Sunday and then he didn’t land on Tua. Even with those measures, Tua suffered broken ribs on the play’s hard hit.

On Saturday, the Dolphins placed their starting QB on injured reserve, which means he’ll miss three games at a minimum. Buffalo hosts Miami in five weeks, so there’s a legitimate chance he could return just in time for another bout with the Bills. They had initially thought he may be able to throw through the pain, but ultimately decided to be cautious with their former first-round pick.

Epenesa and the Bills terrorized Dolphins quarterbacks last weekend, putting them on their butts repeatedly and sacking them six times. Jacoby Brissett came into the game but was also knocked around pretty good.

With Brissett being the only quarterback on the roster, look for Miami to sign Reid Sinnett off their practice squad and bring in another player.
