It's that time of the year where the NFL starts it's annual quest to add more men into the hall of fame. One name that should be in the Hall but won't be on this list is Steve Tasker. Last year was his final year of eligibility as a Modern Era Player. Now his only path is the Senior route, so there is still hope since the morons who vote for the Hall of Fame can tell the difference between someone who literally changed the game and the Hall of Pretty to Really Good but not elite or game changing players.
For example here is the list of first time players on the list.
Running Back: Chris Johnson
Offensive Linemen: Jahri Evans (G), Joe Thomas (T)
Defensive Lineman: Dwight Freeney (DE)
Linebackers: NaVorro Bowman, James Harrison
Defensive Backs: Kam Chancellor (S), Darrelle Revis (CB)
Punter: Shane Lechler
In this fans opinion. NONE of these names should make it into the Hall of Fame in the next class. I strongly believe that being elected in your first year means you were an amazing player for the entire span of your career.
There are names that people will push - Revis Island - was great for many years and should one day make it, but not worthy of first time. Joe Thomas, my god he is one of my all time favorite. However not the greatest OL of all time, so he can wait a year but in year 2 yes (note to everyone if I had to put a first time eligible player in this would be my guy)
Dwight Freeney belongs in the Hall of Really Good, The rest don't belong in the Hall at all in my humble opinion.
However this is the debate time. The list will drop to 25 in November down to 15 before the final class is announced. Good luck to those with a shot. In the end the 1 thing I will count on for sure at least 1 or 2 players who have no business being in the Hall of Fame will get elected this year.
